New Photography: UO Tykeson Hall

New images of Tykeson Hall at the University of Oregon from a series taken by photographer Christian Columbres. Tykeson Hall is both an innovative undergraduate college of arts and sciences classroom building and center for academic and career advising. It has a highly visible presence at the historic center of the UO campus that preserves open space, reinforces existing pedestrian corridors, and forms an outdoor room for campus events.

Inside, connective and semi-private spaces create opportunities for students to collaborate, study, and meet with advisors and mentors.

As part of Oregon’s Percent for Art program, Tykeson Hall features Reflectance Field, a five-story interactive sculpture evocative of rainfall in the main stairwell. Los Angeles artist Susan Narduli designed the sculpture with its 35 chimes within a field of 1,100 “rain” elements (ranging in size from 6” to 12” suspended on 50 cables). Students are invited to tap the chimes and pull the cables to play this collaborative musical instrument. For more images and a video of the sculpture being played, visit Susan Narduli's website.
