UO Design Studio - Glenwood Riverfront

Congrats to all the UO architecture students who completed their design studio projects this term! Below are pics from the Glenwood Riverfront terminal studio final review.

The studio explored the vertical development potential of the blocks established in the current (ongoing) Glenwood Riverfront Master Plan project in Springfield. After researching the context and understanding the planning completed thus far, student teams established initial development ideas for the roughly 30-acre site. Individual students then chose a specific site within the overall one, developed a program, and ultimately designed a building (vertical development).

The terminal studio was taught/sponsored by our firm under the leadership of John Rowell. Greg Brokaw, Peter King, Lorri Nelson, Frank Visconti, and other Rowell Brokaw staff brought expertise in various facets of the project, including planning, site design, concept design, sustainability, mixed use housing and commercial, building re-use, technical development of buildings, graphic representation, and all aspects of architectural design.

Our entire firm had front-row seats throughout the winter and spring terms to these student projects. We were thrilled at the progress we saw from initial ideas to the final pin-ups and presentations. The variety and quality of the final projects was very impressive. Kudos to all the talented students and future architects!

Below is a quick handful of vignettes from the presentations—just scratching the surface of the variety of materials created to experience and understand the designs.
