Virtual Greetings From RBA While WFH

Month two of Working-From-Home (WFH) is well underway. Although staying home is challenging in many ways, many of us are cherishing this time with family, enjoying new exercise and gardening routines, and making the most of the added flexibility. I asked around for reflections on how it’s going so far – here are some of our answers.

Renee Bailey has been enjoying all the extra family time. The Baileys have been baking up to five times each week – cinnamon rolls, bread, cookies, and muffins are in the mix (yum)! Renee jokes that she is “contributing to the scarcity of flour and yeast, for sure.”

Matt Travis shared some heartfelt observations. “My wife, Amber, has been in her own form of quarantine with chemotherapy and radiation since October… it’s been a profound experience for our family to quarantine together.” Amber’s treatment is nearly complete and she will return to work as a healthcare provider next week. “So my anxiety level has ticked up,” says Matt, who has been unwinding with gardening and banjo picking on the front porch. “Our children have grown in this brief time together, and we’re getting to see them and guide them through this first-hand… I’m grateful to be able to work, live, and be a Dad, all at the same time.”

Looks like Matt isn’t the only one getting fresh air by means of yard work. Mark Young commented, “This is the first year that the weeds haven’t defeated me by April.”

We are all grateful that so much of our work can be done remotely and that we’re able to stay productive. We miss working together in the open office but, like countless others, have embraced new ways to chat amongst ourselves and stay connected. We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy (and discovering some silver linings) during this extraordinary and challenging time.
