IIDA Oregon – Student Symposium “Elevate”

Every year the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Oregon Chapter holds a Student Symposium connecting design students from across Oregon and giving them the opportunity to visit recently finished projects. The event is a great networking and learning experience. This year Rowell Brokaw had the honor of hosting interior design students for the “Elevate” student symposium organized by IIDA Directors of Student Affairs Emily Feicht and Abigail Strong.

Designer Elizabeth Brophy and Project Architect Andrew Cohen introduced students to the firm and our recent residential projects on the University of Oregon campus. After a tour of the Rowell Brokaw office, students visited the three buildings that were part of the Hamilton Walton Transformation project: DeNorval Unthank Jr. Hall, the New Residential Hall (yet to be named), and Yasui Hall.

Highlights of the tour led by Sarah Chapman, Housing Interior Design Manager at the University of Oregon, included visiting an example of the student common area on each upper floor of the New Residential Hall, seeing the artwork selected as part of Oregon’s Percent for Art program, and enjoying the students interacting with the interior finishes, furniture, lighting fixtures, and other details.
