Earth Day, Today and Every Day
Happy Earth Day everyone!
Although we all know that every day is earth day, we wanted to draw attention to a recently completed project that worked to preserve the oldest trees on the site for “the older the tree, the greater its potential to store carbon and slow climate change” (see “Old Trees Store More Carbon, More Quickly, Than Younger Trees.”)
Photos from a series taken by Kevin Scott.
Working with collaborating architects Mithun and their inhouse Landscape Architecture team, we sought to preserve the large trees on the corner of Agate Street and 15th Avenue for the new housing dorm, DeNorval Unthank Jr. Hall, on the University of Oregon campus. These trees together play an important role not only in connecting students to the outdoors but also in carbon sequestration.
