Zip-O-Log Mills Headquarters

Eugene, Oregon

Originally founded in 1944 in Coburg, Zip-O-Log Mills / Zip-O-Laminators is a family-owned Oregon business that spans four generations. They now have several mills and manufacturing sites throughout Oregon and provide a range of high-quality, sustainable Douglas Fir and Cedar products (primarily solid sawn and glue-laminated timbers) to the region and around the world.

Having split their team between the small office spaces at the mill and lamination plants, Zip-O-Log wanted to bring the core administration team under one roof. They were able to acquire property near their central mill in Eugene to convert into their new, combined corporate headquarters. The site is well-known locally as the former Sheppard Motors car dealership. Built roughly 60 years ago, it was originally the location of Barker Motors. The building is recognized for its unique mid-century modern architecture, specifically its soaring V-shaped glass front.

Part renovation, part addition, the 22,000 sf headquarters reflects the past history of the site while adding modern workplace amenities. The existing ceiling, uncovered from its previous state, was brought back to life with a media blasting process that removed years of aging and wear to reveal a fresh, new, vaulted ceiling. The showroom has been converted into a social space, the “heart” where collaboration between departments occurs.

Zip-O jumped at the chance to use their own products in the remodel. The entry is characterized by a single, 16” x 34” x 50’ long, solid sawn timber, a signature product type that has separated Zip-O from their competition over the years. All new glulams and timbers, floor decking, finish flooring, and custom interior lites and trim come straight from the sawmill.

The floor plan evolved to include both private and open office areas by work groups and departments. Skylights, sometimes in combination with openings in the second floor, are used to create a balanced daylight strategy at all work areas. A partially covered roof deck on the second floor, adjacent to a multipurpose amenity room, offers employees outdoor space to enjoy year-round.

The Zip-O-Log Mills Headquarters is currently under construction with an anticipated opening at the end of 2026 / early 2027.
