Klamath Core Facilities

University of Oregon

The Klamath Core Facilities project integrates a shared imaging facility, a genomics facility, and a suite of tissue culture and support rooms for biology research into the 2nd floor of Klamath Hall. The Genomics Core Facility was designed with modular casework to accommodate the intense and evolving equipment requirements within the space. The Imaging Core was designed with a focus on highly controlled imaging suites paired with collaborative common space.

Beyond merely providing a modern research environment, the project successfully transforms the experience of research within this area of the building. A circulation node was established that provides identity for the Core Facilities and visual connectivity to the research.

The identity of the original laboratories within Klamath was focused inwards with minimal connection to other labs or between research groups. The new Core Facilities reach outward, showcasing the program and encouraging chance encounters between researchers.
