Construction Update: LTD Station

The construction of Lane Transit Districts' new $4.5 million Santa Clara station began in April of 2020 with the award of the construction contract to Delta Construction Company.
The project occupies the southern 3-acre portion of a 7.5 acre Planned Unit Development between Green Lane and Hunsaker Lane on the east side of River road.
The program includes a six-bay bus loop surrounding a central platform with 3 bus shelters, a 900 SF Driver Relief Building containing restrooms and a breakroom for bus drivers, and a Park-and-Ride lot for 59 vehicles, including drop-off parking. All storm water will be retained and treated on site in vegetated storm water planters. The project also includes significant improvements to the public right of way, including new traffic signals, crosswalks, ADA ramps, street trees, and lighting at the intersection of River Road and Green Lane, and the creation of a new local street, Elementary Lane, which will eventually serve to connect Green Lane with Hunsaker Lane to the north.
With about one month left in construction, things are humming along. The driver relief building is mostly complete with the installation of some finishes and lighting remaining. Work is moving ahead at the bus island platform where structural steel decking is being installed at the shelters to be followed up with standing seam roofing and lighting and the pouring of concrete paving at the platform. Vehicular paving at the bus loop and park and ride is complete, and landscaping and the installation of lighting is proceeding in earnest.
Substantial completion is scheduled for the end of January 2021. Driver training on the site will begin in early January and the station is scheduled to be open to the public on February 7th, 2021.
