Eugene Steam Plant and Matterport Technology
Designer Lauren Johnson and Intern Chae Cannon are capturing high-definition 3D scans of the Eugene Steam Plant. Using Matterport technology, they are building an interactive “digital twin” that provides spatial measurements and visual mapping. The scanning is a comprehensive resource for the whole project team.
Built in 1931 and vacant since shutting down in 2012, the historic utility plant is currently in the feasibility stage of a major adaptive reuse project. Proposed plans include restoring the historic exterior while developing a boutique hotel with ground-floor retail and public spaces.
