Kaarin for Mayor
We encourage everyone in the Eugene district to drop off your ballots before May 21.
While we know each person must weigh the options, we’d like you to consider voting for candidate Kaarin Knudson for mayor of Eugene. Kaarin has worn many hats, including architect. Full disclosure, Kaarin was an employee for 10 years at Rowell Brokaw before establishing her own firm. In addition to practicing architecture, she has taught a series of architecture and urban design studios at the University of Oregon, co-authored a textbook on sustainable urban design, and founded a non-profit which advocates for housing affordability, diversity, and supply.
We're excited about the prospect of someone from the Architecture community running for office because we firmly believe she has the background and skillset to compellingly advocate for Eugene’s built environment, and to find realizable solutions to our strained housing situation. Kaarin would bring well-honed diplomatic skills, strong technical knowledge of housing codes and building processes, and a deep understanding of architectural and urban design principles to the mayor’s office at an opportune time.
While we recommend you visit her website to more fully understand her platform, three goals Kaarin emphasizes are 1) Building an economy that is thriving, fair, and sustainable 2) More stable and abundant housing, and 3) Making our public spaces a priority.
We were fortunate to be able to host an event in our office to give Kaarin an opportunity to address colleagues in the local AEC community. Serendipitously, her new book had just come out. She is the co-author with Nico Larco of The Sustainable Urban Design Handbook, which offers a comprehensive framework for implementing sustainable urban design at all scales.
