Project: A new school building to replace the existing Cascade Middle School

Location: 1525 Echo Hollow Road

Construction is well underway on Bethel School District’s $67 million replacement of Cascade Middle School.

The roughly 85,000 square foot facility broke ground in September 2022 behind the existing school building. It will include classrooms, career technical education spaces, a media center, band and choir rooms and two gyms.

Construction was originally slated for completion in the latter half of the 2023-24 school year, though delays in construction will postpone the building’s opening until the start of the 2024-25 school year.

A large common area forms the center of the new Cascade Middle School building.

After students move into the new building the old building will be torn down and turned into a large green area for students and community members. An existing music building associated with the old school building will be renovated into a new community health center.

Also included in the project was the creation of a synthetic softball and soccer field between the new middle school and Willamette High School.

The building is the largest project to come out of a $99.3 million bond passed by voters in 2020.

The bond has also funded the construction of vocational education facilities at Kalapuya and Willamette high schools and major repairs at other district buildings.

Textbooks, computers and school safety improvements across the district are also funded under the bond.

The building was designed by Eugene-based Rowell Brokaw Architects and is being built by Todd Construction, of Tigard.
