RB Tour of UO’s new Student Welcome Center

The UO recruitment team gave Rowell Brokaw and our families a tour of the new Student Welcome Center in Unthank Hall. This included an explanation of housing options with model rooms, a promotional video in the theater, and a guided tour of campus. The experience was an insightful way to experience our work and the University from a different vantage: that of prospective students and parents. Highlights included an “Enchanted Book” that uses infrared remote sensing to project text, images, and videos as pages are turned—Austin Bailey happened to read the page about Zebrafish research on campus (a fitting coincidence as Austin has been heavily involved in the design and expansion of the Zebrafish facility); custom wallpaper in the bathrooms; and the 150-seat theater which features wide seats and generous spacing between rows for comfortable viewing of the 32-foot-wide digital display screen. The entire experience was very impressive—there definitely were some future ducks (and their parents) in the audience.
