2014 AIA / SWO Design Awards

Rowell Brokaw Architects receives Seven Design Awards including Two Top Honor Awards at the 2014 AIA Southwestern Oregon Design Awards

Rowell Brokaw Architects, PC is honored to be the recipient of seven 2014 AIA Southwestern Oregon (SWO) Design Awards. This Design Award Program is the profession’s highest recognition for work that exemplifies excellence in architecture, interior architecture, and urban design. The AIA/SWO Design Awards Program occurs every five years and was established to celebrate achievements in design excellence by member firms, and honor the architects, consultants, and clients who work together to enhance the built environment.

On May 22 more than 100 people turned out to honor designs by architecture firms at the Design Awards gala held at the Hult Center of the Performing Arts. 11 projects were singled out for recognitions from a field of 27 entries.

Judging this year’s entries were David Tryba, FAIA from Tryba Architects, Denver, CO; Laura Hafermann, AIA, LEED AP from Salt Studio, Seattle; Dennis McFadden, FAIA, Los Angeles, CA; and Carol Coletta, VP, Community and National Initiatives at Knight Foundation, Miami, FL. Juror, Carol Coletta also gave a public lecture entitled “Making Great Cities: Talent + Opportunity + Place” prior to the gala as part of the 2014 Design Excellence Speaker's Series. Over 150 people attended this free, public presentation at the Hult Center’s Soreng Theater.

Overall, the jurors were impressed by the quality of the work submitted by AIA-SWO firms. Those projects whose presentations allowed the jury to immediately see the essence of the design problem and its solution were most successful. Rowell Brokaw Architects, PC entered seven submissions. Each submission received an award.
